Allow me to help you find the why behind your revival
Averie Thayer OTD, OTR/L
Hi!
I am an occupational therapist with a passion for developing meaningful solutions for people as they age. I believe aging doesn’t have to be painful, slow you down, or even change your daily routine. I’ve helped countless people find their solution, and I’m ready to help you too. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with a chronic condition like osteoporosis, Type II Diabetes, or have been told you are a “fall risk” I can help! I am passionate in digging below the surface to find the cause of your problems so we can treat the root of the problem. Together we’ll examine your habits, routines, rituals, and roles that make up your life and we’ll find the solution for your health to not only help you age gracefully, but to promote your best self for every minute you are alive. I want to help you Live Revived!
Using the latest in evidence-based practices, I develop creative ways that resonate with clients to incorporate the changes in their daily lives for improved quality of life. Whether you need a lifestyle overhaul, have had a major change in your health and need some guidance, or just need some holistic advice, I would be honored to work with you.
A bit more about me…
I completed my Bachelor of Education in Kinesiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After dipping into the real world post-undergrad, I realized I wanted a higher influence in healthcare. So a few years later I completed my Doctor of Occupational Therapy at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. This was followed by extensive clinical training in a variety of settings including outpatient pediatrics, orthopedic hand therapy, outpatient neurological rehabilitation, and skilled nursing facilities. I love the patients I work with, but ultimately felt like there was more I could offer individuals without being constrained by insurance companies or patient quotas.
I have experience treating osteoarthritis, postoperative care for orthopedic conditions, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s, and dementia. I also have a unique interest in using equine movement for therapy, and have completed the training for hippotherapy as an intervention tool with the American Hippotherapy Association. I aim to facilitate healing for patients using client-centered and holistic therapeutic approaches with a particular interest in connecting with nature for healing whenever possible. Most of all, I am simply here to help harness your own body’s potential to heal. If any of this resonated with you- let’s chat!
Outside of work I can usually be found playing with my animals, working in my garden, or spending quality time with my husband, Cody. Together we live in Old Hickory, TN and enjoy being active members of our community, cooking together, and are always working on a home renovation project.
